These are not your average potholes that pop up every spring after the
freeze/thaw breaks up the road pavement...these are ancient potholes
that formed after the glaciers from the last ice age melted. As they
melted, they formed eddies that swirled in circles. Rocks and debris
in the water, and the water itself, wore away the rock deposits below.
Behind me, you can see a small pothole that is about one bunny
diameter across, and a very large one that is about 30 bunny diameters
across and over 40 feet deep! You can't even see the bottom in this
photo. There are several potholes here in the park, both large and
small. Some of the biggest and oldest in the world are here. Very
unusual and super neat!
